Al Qassab: Insurance Policy to Cover Liabilities of Engineering Offices

17 May 2017

Eng. Abdul Majid Al-Qassab, Chairman of the Council for Regulating the Practice of Engineering Professions (CRPEP), said that the Council continued its meetings with representatives of the Bahrain Insurance Association (BIA) and insurance companies where discussions were focused on the requirement for engineering offices in Bahrain to the have of a professional indemnity insurance policy to meet the liabilities of such engineering offices.

Eng. Al-Qassab added that the law requires the engineering offices operating in the kingdom to issue a professional insurance policy to meet their liabilities. The Council has taken important steps to enforce this requirement by specifying the value of the engineering projects that each category of engineering offices are entitled to undertake, which is factored in to determine the insurance premium.
Eng. Al-Qassab urged all engineering offices that have not yet issued insurance policies to cover their liabilities, to appraoch insurance companies to avoid any legal implications.

Eng. Al-Qassab concluded by emphasizing that this type of insurance is a protection for engineering offices and clients, especially when accidents or errors regarding practicing the engineering profession happens.
