3 May 2017

Eng. Abdul Majeed Al-Qassab, Chairman of the Council for Regulating the Practice of Engineering Professions (CRPEP), said during a meeting with Mr. Samir Nass, Chairman of NASS Corporation, that the Council listens to and interacts with all that would promote the practice of engineering professions in companies operating in the kingdom. “The Council will spare no effort to contribute to sustainable solutions pertinent to the practice of engineering professions in accordance with the legal framework.

Al Qassab also urged all companies and establishments in the kingdom, who wish to employ engineers to apply for licenses for engineers from the Council before actually employing such engineers, to ensure that the applicants meet the requirements of the license. He added that the key requirement for the licensing of engineers is that the individual has a bachelor\'s degree in engineering or equivalent from a recognized university, and does not require experience to license the Bahraini engineers. While non-Bahraini engineers must have five years of engineering experience.

Based on national and professional responsibility, Al Qassab called on all engineering companies and offices and those in need of engineering staff to give opportunities to Bahraini engineers who we know well that they have reached high levels of engineering skills and knowledge. Plans should also be adopted to empower Bahraini engineers to take over in technical and leading posts to improve skills, enhance technical and managerial knowledge, and utilize modern engineering technology.

Al Qassab elaborated that the Council is seeking to process and issue licenses for engineers in a shorter time, if the documents are complete for the applicant. The Council examines the CV’s of the applicants in detail and ensures all documents such as the bachelor’s degree certificate and the transcripts of grades and experience certificates are submitted, in addition to the personal documents. The Council performs evaluation by a committee of senior experienced engineers to endorse the license. The licensing process for engineers working in government agencies has been improved, as the process of evaluating their applications now takes four days on average, compared to three weeks previously. The Council seeks to improve the licensing process by reducing the time spent and also by enhancing the quality of the evaluation in accordance with the applicable regulations.
